Congratulations and welcome to the School of Social Ecology! We are excited that you will be joining us this fall. As a reminder, attending an advising session is mandatory unless your exception request was formally approved by our office. We will review your degree requirements, academic policies, campus resources and services, and other important information. You will also have an opportunity to work with our professional and student staff to register for fall classes.

SUMMER ACADEMIC ADVISING SESSIONS

Registration for summer academic advising session will begin on Wednesday, June 7th at 10am. In the table below click "Register Here" next to the orientation date you would like to register for. This will allow you to access the form to register for your mandatory summer academic advising session. You can only sign up for ONE session. Please know that you are not at a disadvantage if you sign-up for advising sessions that are held later in the summer. We have allocated a number of spaces in all of our classes to accommodate new students entering UCI this fall.  You must activate and log in to your UCI Net ID before registering - see directions below.

TRANSFER SUCCESS PROGRAM

How do you succeed as a transfer student at UCI? Start by attending Transfer Success and meeting other transfer students like yourself. The transfer experience at UCI should be positive and an enriching educational experience. Transfer Success exposes new transfer students to resources and services available on campus. This is a program sponsored by Student Life & Leadership. Note that while this program is not mandatory, we highly recommend that you consider attending.

*THINGS YOU NEED FOR YOUR ACADEMIC ADVISING SESSION:*

  • Activate your UCInetID prior to attending your summer academic advising session. Activating your UCInetID allows you to register for classes and begin using your UCI e-mail account. Please note that we have placed a hold on your record. This is to ensure that all new students attend their academic advising session prior to enrolling in classes. We will remove your hold during your academic advising session so you can register for fall classes.
  • Money for parking: $10 for an all-day permit. Purchase at the information kiosk at the entrance to the Social Sciences Parking Structure (SSPS) at the intersection of Campus Dr. and Stanford.
  • Transcripts: You are ONLY required to bring a copy of your transcript(s) (unofficial is fine) if you are changing majors.
  • What to Bring: Pen and paper to take notes.
  • Campus map: find the Social Sciences Parking Structure (SSPS) and park there. Give yourself about 20 minutes to find parking and walk over to the Social & Behavioral Sciences Gateway (SBSG) building or Social Ecology I building. All of our summer academic advising sessions will be held in either location.

**Please refer to your confirmation e-mail to find out the location of your summer academic advising session. Remember to be on time as you may need to attend another session if you are late.

CHANGE OF MAJOR INFORMATION

  • If you are a newly admitted transfer student in a major outside of our school and would like to change to a major within the School of Social Ecology, please review the change of major criteria for new students. If you meet this criteria prior to matriculating to UC Irvine, please attend one of our academic advising sessions. You will need to bring a copy of your unofficial transcript(s) from your community college(s) or four-year institution.

*THINGS TO DO BEFORE FALL 2017:*

  • Submit final and official copies of your transcript(s) to the Office of Admissions and Relations with Schools as soon as possible. IGETC (Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum) certification should be completed before classes begin. You are subject to completing UCI's General Education requirement if IGETC is not fulfilled.
  • Get your picture taken for your student ID at The Hill.
  • Purchase a permit if you will be parking on campus. Find more information on current rates here.
  • Take a campus tour or walk through campus to familiarize yourself with building/room locations. Information on campus tours can be found here.
  • Utilize the Transfer Student Checklist to make sure you have not forgotten anything in preparation for your first quarter.
  • Review the Transfer Pre-Orientation website.
